Jitendra Joshi was born on 27 January 1979 in Pune, Maharashtra, and was raised in a Marwari family.

He began his career in Marathi theatre and television, gaining recognition from the Zee Marathi daily soap Ghadlay Bighadlay, where he played Krishna.

Joshi is also a lyricist, having written the popular Marathi song Kombadi Palali, which was later remixed into the Bollywood hit Chikni Chameli.

His film debut was in Pran Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye (2003), marking his entry into Hindi cinema.

He is widely admired for portraying Sant Tukaram Maharaj in the Marathi film Tukaram (2012), a role that earned him critical acclaim.

Joshi became internationally recognized for his role as Constable Katekar in Netflix’s Sacred Games (2018), which won him immense popularity.

Apart from acting, he has also worked as a host, notably for the talent reality show Marathi Paaul Padte Pudhe in 2011.

He is known by nicknames such as “Jitu Dada” and “Jitya”, reflecting his popularity among fans.

Joshi is a multi-skilled artist, having worked as an actor, lyricist, host, and writer, making him one of the most versatile personalities in Marathi entertainment.

He has been married to Mitali Joshi since 2009, and they have one child.
