Biography
Justin Prabhakaran, born on June 10, 1986, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, is a celebrated Indian film composer, music director, and lyricist known for his soulful and emotionally rich music across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema. His musical journey began in childhood, playing keyboard in his church choir and later mastering multiple instruments including guitar. He pursued a degree in Zoology at American College, Madurai, where a chance meeting with cinematographer Gopinath led him to study sound engineering at M.G.R. Film & TV Institute in Chennai2.
While at the institute, Justin actively participated in cultural events like Tamil Thendral, which helped him connect with industry professionals and eventually assist renowned composer Harris Jayaraj on the film Thuppakki. He began his career composing for short films and independent projects, building a strong foundation before making his feature debut with Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (2014). The film’s music, including the song “Pesuren Pesuren,” which he also sang, earned him critical acclaim and marked his arrival in mainstream cinema.
Justin’s versatility is evident in his ability to blend traditional melodies with contemporary sounds. His work in Kunjiramayanam (2015) in Malayalam cinema produced chart-topping hits like “Salsa” and “Thumba Poove Sundari.” He has also penned lyrics for several songs, showcasing his multifaceted talent.
