Rani Mukerji
Facts
Rani Mukerji was born on 21 March 1978 in Mumbai into the prominent Mukherjee-Samarth film family; her father Ram Mukherjee was a filmmaker and her mother Krishna Mukherjee a playback singer.
She made her acting debut in her father’s Bengali film Biyer Phool (1996) before entering Bollywood with Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat the same year.
Her first major commercial success came with Ghulam (1998), opposite Aamir Khan, followed by her breakthrough role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Rani is a trained Odissi dancer, having studied the classical dance form during her school years.
She was not initially interested in pursuing acting seriously; her father’s health condition and encouragement from family pushed her into films.
She has been linked to several rumored relationships in the past, including with actors Govinda and Abhishek Bachchan, before marrying filmmaker Aditya Chopra in 2014.
Rani Mukerji has participated in international concert tours and stage shows, expanding her popularity beyond India.
She once featured as a talent judge on the reality show Dance Premier League in 2009.
Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf publicly mentioned Rani Mukerji as his favorite Bollywood actress, which brought her international attention.
Despite being one of the most successful actresses of the 2000s, she has always maintained a low-profile media image, preferring privacy over publicity.
