Maddock Films Sets August 2026 for Prahaar and Eetha Releases
Maddock Films is doubling down on biopics. After the blockbuster success of Chhaava and the Stree universe, Dinesh Vijan has locked August 2026 for two ambitious true-story dramas — Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story and Eetha — set to arrive just three weeks apart.
Prahaar Arrives August 7
First up is Prahaar, starring Rajkummar Rao as the legendary special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, known for his decisive role in high-profile cases including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks trial. Directed by Avinash Arun (Killa, Three of Us), the film promises a gripping courtroom drama. The ensemble cast includes Wamiqa Gabbi and Jaideep Ahlawat in pivotal roles. With Rao’s reputation for transformative performances, the film is already generating buzz as a potential awards contender.
Eetha Takes August 28 Clash
Three weeks later, on August 28, Maddock presents Eetha — the story of Maharashtra’s beloved Tamasha legend Vithabai Narayangaonkar. Shraddha Kapoor steps into the spotlight as the folk icon, having undergone extensive Lavani training for the role. Directed by Laxman Utekar (Mimi, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke), the film also features Randeep Hooda in a key role. The production recently wrapped a tight 60-day shooting schedule across Maharashtra.
Early social media reactions have praised Kapoor’s look and dance commitment, with fans calling it a “career-defining role.” The film will clash directly with Sidharth Malhotra’s action-drama Vvan, setting up a major box-office face-off on the last weekend of August.
Vijan’s Biopic Push
Following the historical success of Chhaava and the horror-comedy Stree franchise, Maddock is clearly pivoting toward rooted, character-driven narratives. With both Prahaar and Eetha, the studio aims to blend mainstream appeal with real-life heroism — and August 2026 will test just how hungry audiences are for this new brand of cinema.
