Bollywood fans are in for a nostalgic treat as Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan reunite after more than a decade for the upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla. Their last collaboration was the satirical drama Khatta Meetha in 2010, and this new project promises to blend Priyadarshan’s trademark humor with supernatural thrills.
Set in the haunted village bungalow of Mangalpur, the film weaves eerie black magic elements from Indian mythology into a comedic narrative. The ensemble cast is stacked with familiar faces: Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, and Manoj Joshi all join the ride, while veteran actor Asrani makes a special posthumous appearance, adding emotional weight to the film’s release
The producers have gone all out to build hype. Giant cutouts of Akshay Kumar and the film’s characters have been installed at iconic Delhi landmarks such as India Gate and Lodhi Garden, drawing crowds and sparking curiosity. In a unique promotional twist, the film also features a Naagin TV crossover, bridging cinema and television fandoms. Additionally, nods to Priyadarshan’s earlier comedy classics like Bhagam Bhag and Bhool Bhulaiyaa are sprinkled throughout, promising a nostalgic yet fresh experience for audiences.
Paid previews are scheduled to begin on April 16 at 9 PM, with the full theatrical release on April 17. Trade experts are already predicting a strong box office run, citing the film’s combination of star power, Priyadarshan’s proven comedic timing, and Pritam’s music, which is expected to add chart-topping tracks to the mix.
