Jailer 2 Telugu Rights Shock: ₹60Cr Quote, No Buyers Yet for Rajinikanth–Nelson Film

The buzz around Jailer 2 has taken an unexpected turn, especially in the Telugu market. Starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel to the blockbuster Jailer is already one of the most anticipated films in South India. However, recent reports suggest that its Telugu theatrical rights have hit a roadblock.

According to industry chatter, the makers have quoted a staggering ₹60 crore for the Telugu rights of Jailer 2. While the first part performed solidly across languages, this steep pricing seems to have made distributors cautious. As of now, no major buyer has stepped forward to close the deal, raising eyebrows in trade circles.

Adding to the intrigue, there were rumors that Nandamuri Balakrishna was approached for a pivotal role in the film. Given his strong fanbase in the Telugu states, his inclusion could have significantly boosted the film’s market value. However, reports indicate that Balakrishna has declined the offer, which may have impacted the overall buzz surrounding the project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Despite these setbacks, the makers remain confident. The film is eyeing an August release, and much will depend on the teaser, trailer, and overall promotional campaign. If the content clicks and generates strong hype, the Telugu rights could still fetch a high price closer to release.

In case the deal doesn’t materialize, the producers are reportedly considering a fallback strategy. Similar to the first film, they may opt for a commission-based release in the Telugu market. Established distributors like Dil Raju and D. Suresh Babu could come on board to release the film under this model, in association with Sun Pictures.

While the ₹60 crore quote has certainly shocked the trade, it also reflects the massive expectations riding on Jailer 2. Whether the gamble pays off or forces a rethink will become clearer in the coming weeks as the film’s promotional content begins to roll out.
