The farewell ceremony witnessed a massive turnout from the film fraternity and political leaders. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay personally paid homage, describing Bhagyaraj’s passing as an irreparable loss to Tamil cinema. Superstar Rajinikanth also attended, alongside several industry veterans, reflecting the deep influence Bhagyaraj had across generations. Ministers Anand and Rajmohan represented the state government, offering floral tributes before the cremation.

Born on January 7, 1953, in Vellankoil near Gobichettipalayam, Bhagyaraj carved a unique space in Tamil cinema as the “King of Screenplay.” He directed over 25 films and acted in more than 75 productions, leaving behind classics such as Mundhanai Mudichu, Andha 7 Naatkal, Chinna Veedu, and Thooral Ninnu Pochchu. His witty dialogues, family-centric narratives, and socially relevant themes made him one of the most relatable filmmakers of his era. Many of his works were later remade in Hindi, extending his influence beyond Tamil Nadu.

The emotional farewell was marked by the presence of his family—wife Poornima Bhagyaraj, son Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, and daughter Saranya Bhagyaraj—who were supported by the film fraternity and thousands of fans. The sheer scale of the turnout underscored the love and respect Bhagyaraj commanded. His passing leaves a void in Indian cinema, but his legacy as a storyteller who blended humour, values, and social commentary will continue to inspire future generations.
