Vishnu Manchu’s long-awaited mythological drama Kannappa finally hit theatres on June 27, 2025, and early box office reports suggest a modest yet career-best opening for the actor. Despite high expectations and a star-studded ensemble, the film’s Day 1 collection stands at ₹6.5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
A Dream Project with a Devotional Core
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu, Kannappa tells the story of a tribal hunter’s unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva. The film features cameo appearances by Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal, adding to its pan-India appeal.
Language-Wise Occupancy
The film saw varied occupancy across regions:
Telugu: 50.45%
Tamil: 16.06%
Kannada: 13.63%
Hindi: 9.53%
Malayalam: 5.80%
Released across 2,079 screens in India, Kannappa faced stiff competition from Kajol’s Maa, which collected ₹3.21 crore on the same day.
While Kannappa didn’t quite match the frenzy expected from a ₹200 crore production, it still marks a personal milestone for Vishnu Manchu. With word-of-mouth and weekend footfalls yet to play out, the film’s long-term performance remains to be seen.
