Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli is once again pushing cinematic boundaries by recreating the holy city of Varanasi in Hyderabad for his upcoming film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film, tentatively titled SSMB29, is being shot on a grand scale, with Rajamouli sparing no expense to ensure authenticity. Reports suggest that the Varanasi set, built inside Ramoji Film City, cost approximately ₹50 crore, making it one of the most elaborate sets ever constructed for an Indian film.
A Cinematic Marvel in the Making
The decision to recreate Varanasi stems from the logistical challenges of shooting in the real city. Rajamouli, known for his attention to detail, has ensured that the set mirrors the ghats, temples, and bustling streets of Varanasi. The film’s storyline reportedly involves Mahesh Babu’s character embarking on a global quest for a mystical medicinal herb, adding a mythological dimension to the narrative. The leaked images of the set have gone viral, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship and scale of the production.
Hollywood-Grade VFX and Action Sequences
Apart from the massive set, the film will feature high-end CGI, with Hollywood VFX studios contributing to the visual effects. A major action sequence involving Mahesh Babu is set to be filmed on the Varanasi set, promising spectacular visuals and intense drama. With two schedules already completed, the next phase of shooting will take place in Kenya, further expanding the film’s global scale.
