Sony has expanded the entertainment capabilities of the PlayStation 5 with the launch of Live TV on PS5, a new free, ad-supported streaming service offering more than 100 live channels along with a growing library of on-demand entertainment. The service launched in the United States on August 31, 2026.
The new service is operated by Sony Pictures Television and is designed to turn the PS5 into more than just a gaming console. Users can access live programming covering movies, television shows, anime, sports, news and other entertainment directly from the console's Media section.
More Than 100 Free Channels
Live TV on PS5 follows the Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) model. This means users do not need to pay a separate subscription to access the available channels, but advertisements support the service.
The launch lineup includes programming from several major entertainment brands and content providers, including Crunchyroll, FOX, NBCUniversal, NFL Channel, UFC and Amazon MGM Studios. The selection is expected to receive regular updates with new channels and programming.
Anime fans can also find content from Crunchyroll, while sports programming includes offerings related to UFC, FOX Sports, NBC Sports and other sports-focused channels. Movie and television channels add further variety for viewers looking for entertainment without leaving their console.
How to Watch Live TV on PS5
Getting started is relatively simple. PS5 owners need to open the Media tab on the console's home screen, select the Live TV on PS5 icon and sign in using their PlayStation account. No separate application download is required.
The service also includes on-demand programming, allowing users to watch selected entertainment beyond the live channel schedule.
US Launch First, More Markets Expected
For now, Live TV on PS5 is available in the United States. Sony has indicated that Canada is next in its expansion plans, while availability in other regions has not yet been confirmed.
For PS5 owners in supported markets, the service could make the console a more complete entertainment hub by bringing live television, streaming-style on-demand content and gaming together on one device. Sony also plans to refresh the service with additional channels and programming over time
