Delhi Government Announces Free Bus Travel for NEET (UG) 2026 Candidates on Exam Day
New Delhi: In a student-friendly move ahead of one of India's most competitive medical entrance exams, the Delhi government has announced free bus travel for all candidates appearing for the NEET (UG) 2026 examination scheduled for June 21.
The initiative, confirmed by the Transport Department of the Delhi government, aims to ease the commute for thousands of aspiring medical students who will be traveling to various exam centers across the national capital on the day of the test.
Key Details of the Scheme
Under the announcement, candidates will be allowed to travel free of cost on all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses plying within the city. To avail the benefit, examinees will simply need to show their valid NEET 2026 admit card to the bus conductor or driver at the time of boarding.
The free travel facility will be available throughout the day on June 21, covering all routes across Delhi. The government has also confirmed that no time restrictions will apply, allowing candidates to travel to their exam centers in the morning and return home afterward without any fare.
Official Statement
A senior official from the Delhi Transport Department stated, "We understand that reaching exam centers on time is a major concern for students and their families. By making bus travel free, we hope to reduce one layer of stress and ensure that no candidate misses the exam due to transportation issues or financial constraints."
Additional Arrangements
The Delhi government has also directed bus operators to increase the frequency of services on major routes leading to known exam centers. Contingency plans, including standby buses near metro stations and key intersections, have also been put in place to handle any last-minute disruptions or unexpected crowding.
NEET (UG) 2026 Overview
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted annually for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses across India. Lakhs of candidates appear for the exam each year, with Delhi being one of the major hubs.
Candidates are advised to download their admit cards well in advance, verify their exam center locations, and plan their travel using DTC or cluster buses to benefit from this free travel scheme.
