In a dramatic turn of events, Karnataka BJP legislator Byrathi Basavaraj was taken into custody on Thursday evening at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The KR Puram MLA had just arrived from Ahmedabad when a team of CID officials detained him in connection with the murder of realtor and rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash, popularly known as Biklu Shivu.
The arrest came only hours after the Supreme Court rejected Basavaraj’s plea for anticipatory bail, clearing the way for investigators to act. Shivaprakash, aged 40, was brutally hacked to death in Bharathi Nagar on July 15, 2025.
