LPG Booking Rules 2026: What Has Changed for Consumers?
LPG consumers across India are facing several important changes in cooking-gas booking, distribution and connection rules in 2026. The changes are aimed at improving LPG availability, preventing panic booking and ensuring that domestic cylinders reach genuine households. The government and oil marketing companies have also been focusing on digital verification and the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
One of the most important requirements for LPG consumers is e-KYC verification. Oil marketing companies have been asking domestic LPG customers to complete Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC. The latest reported deadline has been extended to August 31, 2026, making it important for consumers who have not yet completed the process to verify their connection.
New LPG Cylinder Booking Rules
The booking interval between two domestic LPG refills has been tightened in several circumstances. Reports have referred to waiting periods of around 25 days for urban consumers and 45 days for rural consumers, although the applicable interval can depend on the consumer's location and the oil marketing company's current system.
These restrictions are intended to prevent unnecessary stockpiling and panic booking, particularly during periods of supply disruption. The government had earlier reported that panic bookings had reduced and domestic LPG cylinder deliveries were continuing normally.
One Household, One LPG Connection
Another significant change concerns multiple LPG connections. The government has been moving towards a one household, one LPG connection approach. Customers with duplicate or multiple domestic connections may therefore be required to regularise or surrender additional connections.
Consumers should ensure that their LPG connection details, Aadhaar information, mobile number and other KYC details are updated to avoid service-related complications.
New Connections and PNG Rules
The government is also encouraging households with access to city gas networks to shift towards PNG. In August 2026, incentives were announced to encourage gas distribution companies to expand domestic PNG connections.
For consumers, this means LPG remains an important cooking-fuel option, but the government is simultaneously expanding alternative piped-gas infrastructure.
How Consumers Can Book LPG
Customers can continue using digital channels offered by their respective oil marketing companies. Indane, for example, provides online booking, SMS/IVRS booking, missed-call booking and WhatsApp booking facilities.
Overall, LPG consumers should complete e-KYC, maintain accurate connection details and avoid unnecessary advance bookings. These measures can help ensure uninterrupted LPG services while supporting the government's effort to make domestic gas distribution more transparent and efficient.
