What began as a joyous engagement in February between Siya Goyal, a 20‑year‑old from Pune, and Ketan Agrawal, a young man from a prominent real estate family, has now spiraled into one of the city’s most shocking crime stories. The families had reportedly started planning a grand wedding, but by mid‑June, tragedy struck at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala.
On June 18, Siya and Ketan visited the fort with a few companions. During the outing, Ketan fell nearly 400 feet into a gorge and died instantly. Siya told police that it was an accident, claiming Ketan slipped while taking photographs in strong winds. Based on her statement, authorities initially registered the case as an accidental death.
However, Ketan’s family refused to accept this explanation. His father approached the police, voicing suspicions about the circumstances. Investigators began examining digital evidence, witness accounts, and the movements of those present. What emerged was a narrative far darker than first believed.
According to police, Siya was allegedly in a relationship with another man, Chetan Chaudhary, and did not want to marry Ketan. Investigators claim the two saw Ketan as an obstacle and conspired to eliminate him. Their version of events suggests Siya lured Ketan to the fort while Chetan arrived separately, and together they pushed him from the edge.
Both Siya and Chetan have since been arrested. Police registered a murder case and stated during a media briefing that the accused confessed during questioning. A death note and other technical evidence are being scrutinized to strengthen the case.
Despite these allegations, it is important to note that the accused have not yet been tried, and the claims remain to be tested in court. The final truth will only be established through judicial proceedings.
The incident has shocked Pune and beyond, transforming what was initially reported as a tragic accident on a popular trekking route into a sensational alleged murder case. It underscores how fragile trust can be in relationships and how quickly celebrations can turn into grief.
As the investigation continues, the case is expected to draw significant public and legal attention. For now, the story of Siya and Ketan serves as a grim reminder of how love, betrayal, and crime can intertwine, leaving families and communities grappling with unanswered questions.
