Russia Is Ready For Nuclear War If Threatened; Putin Tells State Media

President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia is prepared to employ nuclear weapons if there is a threat to Russian statehood, sovereignty, or independence. In an interview with Russian state television, Putin emphasized that Russia’s nuclear forces are ready for such a scenario. While he expressed hope that the U.S. would avoid any escalation leading to a nuclear war, he asserted that Russia is prepared. 

Regarding the ongoing situation in Ukraine, Putin clarified that there has been no need to consider using battlefield nuclear weapons. He also left the door open for talks, emphasizing that any agreement would require firm guarantees from the West.
