Dubai (UAE) Witnesses Heaviest Rainfall In 75 Years

In an extraordinary climatic event, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently experienced the heaviest rainfall witnessed in 75 years. This significant meteorological phenomenon swept across the nation, impacting various regions, including the Khatm al-Shakla area in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, which bore the brunt of the deluge. The record-breaking showers surpassed anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.

The National Centre of Meteorology confirmed that the record rainfall that fell on the country during the past 24 hours until 9 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, is an exceptional event in the UAE’s climate history. This historic downpour is expected to contribute to increasing the annual rainfall average in the UAE and strengthen the country’s groundwater reserves. The highest rainfall was recorded in the “Khatm Al Shakla” area in Al Ain, reaching 254.8 mm in less than 24 hours. To put this into perspective, it’s like having more than 46,000 bananas stacked on top of each other!

Dubai International Airport faced significant disruption due to adverse weather conditions, with efforts underway to restore normal operations swiftly. Flights experienced delays or diversions, highlighting the impact of this unprecedented rainfall event on the region’s infrastructure and daily life.
