The revered portals of the Kedarnath temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, were ceremoniously closed on Sunday for the winter season. The event was marked by Vedic rituals performed with great reverence and devotion. Despite the chilly Himalayan weather, over 18,000 pilgrims flocked to the temple to witness this significant spiritual occasion, showcasing their unwavering faith.
The closure ceremony began early in the morning, enveloping the sacred site in an aura of spirituality and devotion. The priests, Vedic scholars, and pujaris performed the 'Samadhi Puja' of the 'Swayambhu' Shivling of Lord Kedarnath with meticulous attention to ancient traditions. As part of the rituals, the five-faced ceremonial procession (Panchmukhi Utsav Doli) of Baba Kedar was brought out of the temple, signifying the deity's departure for the winter months.
Following the rituals, the idol of Lord Shiva was taken to the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, where it will remain until the reopening of Kedarnath next spring. The festive and deeply spiritual atmosphere was a testament to the enduring devotion of the pilgrims, who braved the arduous journey and harsh weather conditions to participate in this sacred event. The closing of Kedarnath's portals not only marks the end of a spiritual chapter but also strengthens the faith and unity among its devotees.
