
Renowned spiritual guru and yoga practitioner Baba Shivanand, a Padma Shri awardee, has passed away at the age of 128 in Varanasi due to health complications. His departure marks the end of an era for yoga enthusiasts and seekers of spiritual wisdom. Born in 1896 in the Sylhet district of present-day Bangladesh, Baba Shivanand overcame immense hardships early in life. His lifelong commitment to yoga and his unwavering faith earned him national recognition, culminating in his Padma Shri honor in 2022 for his contributions to society through yoga. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over Baba Shivanand’s passing, calling his departure "an irreparable loss" for the people of Kashi and millions across the country. Modi praised his extraordinary contributions to yoga and sadhana, stating that his life’s work would continue to inspire future generations. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute, highlighting Baba Shivanand’s immense role in promoting yoga and spiritual teachings. As his final journey unfolds, Baba Shivanand’s mortal remains have been placed at his residence in Kabirnagar Colony, allowing devotees to offer their last respects.
