Delhi Ashram Scandal: Swami Accused of Sexual Misconduct, Staff Under Scrutiny

A prominent spiritual ashram in Delhi has been rocked by allegations of sexual misconduct, with its head Swami and several staff members accused of molesting women devotees. The case has triggered widespread outrage and calls for stricter oversight of religious institutions.

According to Delhi Police, multiple women have come forward alleging that the Swami, revered by followers for decades, exploited his position to sexually assault them during private “healing sessions.” The complaints also implicate ashram staff, who allegedly facilitated access and silenced victims through intimidation.

The FIR, registered under sections of molestation, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy, has led to the arrest of two senior aides. The Swami remains under investigation, with authorities awaiting forensic evidence and further testimonies.

Women’s rights groups have condemned the incident, demanding swift justice and institutional reforms. “This is not just a case of individual abuse — it’s a systemic failure to protect vulnerable devotees,” said activist Kavita Srivastava.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has launched an independent inquiry and urged victims to come forward. “We will ensure their safety and dignity,” said DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report from Delhi Police, while civil society groups are pressing for a national framework to regulate spiritual centers and ensure accountability.

This scandal comes amid growing scrutiny of religious institutions across India, with several high-profile cases in recent years exposing abuse cloaked in spiritual authority.
