Kamal Haasan Warns Vijay: “Not Everyone at Your Rally Will Vote for You”

In a pointed yet measured remark, actor-politician Kamal Haasan has cautioned fellow actor and emerging political leader Thalapathy Vijay that massive rally turnouts don’t always translate into votes. The comment comes amid Vijay’s high-profile campaign trail across Tamil Nadu under his newly launched party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

“Just because a leader attracts huge crowds doesn’t mean the entire turnout will convert into votes. This applies to all leaders—including me and Vijay,” Haasan told reporters.

Haasan’s statement was in response to media queries about the overwhelming public response to Vijay’s rallies, particularly in Tiruvarur, where Vijay challenged critics by asking the crowd, “Is this an empty gathering?”—prompting thunderous chants of “Vijay”.

Haasan also offered advice to Vijay:

“Go on the right path, proceed with courage, and do good for the people. That’s my appeal to all leaders”.

The exchange highlights a growing tension between TVK and established parties like Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and DMK, as Tamil Nadu gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections. Vijay’s rallies have focused on issues like farmer grievances, infrastructure gaps, and dynastic politics, while Haasan’s remarks serve as a reminder of the difference between popularity and political conversion.
