A 29-year-old science teacher from Assam, working at a private school in Hyderabad’s Adibatla area, died by suicide on September 19 after allegedly facing sustained harassment from two male colleagues.
The woman was found hanging at her residence in Turkayamjal. Her husband, who was away in Assam for business, filed a complaint on September 20, alleging that the two teachers had been harassing her for over six months. Despite previous warnings issued by him over the phone, the harassment reportedly intensified after his departure on September 15, leading to her tragic death.
The accused, identified as Ibrahim and Junaid, have been taken into custody. A case of abetment to suicide has been registered, and police investigations are ongoing.
The incident has sparked outrage among educators and civil society groups, who are demanding stronger workplace protections and mental health support systems for teachers. The school management has yet to issue a formal statement.
