Story

Aranya Rodana (English: Cry in the Wilderness) is directed by Biplab Ray Chaudhuri and based on the novel Ashanta Arayana by Odia writer Satakadi Hota. The film tells the story of Kalyani, a journalist investigating the rape and murder of a tribal woman by a policeman in rural Odisha. She adopts the victim’s child and becomes deeply involved in the tribals’ lives, while facing challenges in her own marriage.

Notes & Extra Info: The film was selected for the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India and won two National Awards in 1993, including Best Feature Film in Odia. Music was composed by Shantanu Mohapatra, with cinematography by Raju Mishra.
