Story

Aranya Rodana (English: Cry in the Wilderness) is directed by Biplab Ray Chaudhuri and based on the novel Ashanta Arayana by Odia writer Satakadi Hota. The film tells the story of Kalyani, a journalist investigating the rape and murder of a tribal woman by a policeman in rural Odisha. She adopts the victim’s child and becomes deeply involved in the tribals’ lives, while facing challenges in her own marriage.


Notes & Extra Info: The film was selected for the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India and won two National Awards in 1993, including Best Feature Film in Odia.
