Babula is regarded as the first Odia children’s film. Directed by Sadhu Meher, it tells the story of a young boy, Babula, who discovers a strange alien-like creature while searching for his missing dog. He hides the creature and forms a bond with it, but adults misinterpret it as a dangerous ghostly being, leading to conflict. The film contrasts childhood innocence and compassion with adult fear and prejudice. A Hindi-dubbed version was released under the title Dost.
