Story

Khyanikaa: The Lost Idea is written, directed, shot, and edited by Amartya Bhattacharyya, and produced by Swastik Choudhury. The film stars Amrita Chowdhury, Susant Misra, Swastik Choudhury, Hrushikesh Bhoi, Bikash Das, Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Anu Choudhury, and Bhaswati Basu. It is a fantasy-driven tale where two men—a poet and a painter—claim possession over the same “Idea,” personified as a young woman free of all bondage. Their conflict leads them to approach “Fate,” personified as a man of authority, but they eventually realize that an idea cannot be owned. The film blends satire, surrealism, and magic realism to explore creativity, freedom, and human imagination.
Notes & Extra Info: The film won the Best Editing Award at the 29th Odisha State Film Awards. Its music was composed by Kisaloy Roy. Khyanikaa was screened at multiple international film festivals, including the Indian Panorama at IFFI Goa, and was praised for its experimental storytelling and visual style. It is considered one of the most unique Odia films of the decade, standing out for its philosophical depth and artistic treatment.
