The league will feature eight teams, including franchises such as the Guwahati Royals, Jorhat Stallions, and Barak Legends. These teams were formed following player registrations held in May, ensuring that local cricketers get the opportunity to showcase their skills on a bigger stage.

The launch event was attended by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and Assam Cricket Association (ACA) President Taranga Gogoi, underscoring the importance of the league in the broader cricketing ecosystem. Matches are expected to begin in August 2026, with live broadcasts on Star Sports and streaming on JioHotstar, giving the tournament national visibility.

With budgets and resources being invested into the APL, the initiative reflects Assam’s ambition to nurture homegrown talent while also entertaining fans with high-quality cricket. The timing is significant, as regional leagues across India have increasingly become feeder systems for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other national tournaments.

The Assam Premier League is not just about competition—it’s about creating a sustainable cricketing culture in the state. By combining professional franchise structures with grassroots participation, the league aims to inspire young players and provide them with a clear route to professional success.
