Mahakali

Story

Mahakali is an upcoming Telugu mythological superhero film and the next major project from the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), the cinematic universe established with Hanu-Man. The film is written and conceptualised by Prasanth Varma and directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, with Bhoomi Shetty playing the titular superhero character. The story is rooted in Indian mythology and spirituality and is set against the cultural backdrop of Bengal, a region strongly associated with the worship of Goddess Kali.

The film aims to combine mythology, contemporary themes and superhero storytelling on a large cinematic scale. Akshaye Khanna plays Shukracharya, the formidable guru of the Asuras, marking his Telugu cinema debut. His striking transformation and first-look appearance have already attracted considerable attention.

Rohit Saraf, Shriya Reddy, Rakesh Bedi, Rajat Kapoor, Murali Sharma, Samuthirakani, Khushbu Sundar and Nassar are also part of the ensemble cast. The makers are reportedly mounting the project for an IMAX 3D presentation, with more than 150 days of filming completed. The first glimpse, titled “Mahakali – The End Begins,” is scheduled for August 24, 2026. The film is currently expected to reach cinemas in January 2027.
