Know All About the 29-kilometer-long Dwarka Expressway; Is It Toll Free ?

The Dwarka Expressway, a significant infrastructure project, is set to transform connectivity between Delhi and Gurgaon. Here are the key details about this expressway:

Route and Length:
The 29-kilometer-long Dwarka Expressway comprises 18.9 kilometers in Haryana and the remaining 10.1 kilometers in Delhi.
It begins at Shiv-Murti on National Highway 8 and extends to the vicinity of the Kherki Daula toll plaza.

Purpose and Connectivity:
The expressway connects Shiv Murti near IGI Airport in Delhi to the Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurgaon.
Commuters traveling from Gurgaon to Delhi will benefit from this improved commuting option, reducing travel time and enhancing connectivity.

The elevated eight-lane access-controlled expressway is a pioneering project in India.
It includes tunnels, underpasses, flyovers, and elevated structures.
Notably, there’s a unique 34-meter-wide elevated road supported by single pillars over a length of 9 kilometers.

Construction and Investment:

The project is being executed in four phases:
Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Bijwasan (5.9 km)
Bijwasan ROB to Delhi-Haryana border in Gurgaon (4.2 km)
Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2 km) in Haryana
Basai to Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange (8.7 km)
The estimated cost of construction is approximately Rs 9,000 crore.
Each phase involves substantial investment, with costs ranging from Rs 1,859 crore to Rs 2,507 crore.

Toll Charges:

At a Road Safety Committee meeting in March 2021, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced that the Dwarka Expressway (along with the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway) would be India’s first toll-free highway.
Therefore, no tolls will be charged from commuters using this route23.
