Yamaha is preparing to expand its popular R-series motorcycle lineup in India with the much-awaited Yamaha R2. The new fully faired sports bike is expected to sit above the Yamaha R15 and offer enthusiasts a more powerful yet accessible performance motorcycle. According to multiple reports, Yamaha could launch the R2 in India on August 27, 2026. The company has sent out a media invitation for an event on that date, although the exact product name has not been officially confirmed yet.
The Yamaha R2 is expected to be positioned between the R15 and larger Yamaha performance motorcycles. It is also expected to be sold alongside the R15 rather than replacing it. The motorcycle is being developed and manufactured in India, with Yamaha reportedly planning exports to international markets as well.

The Yamaha R2 is expected to be priced at around ₹2.15 lakh to ₹2.20 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Some estimates place its price in the ₹2 lakh–₹2.5 lakh range. The final price will depend on the variant and equipment offered at launch. At this price, the R2 could compete directly with motorcycles such as the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR 210.
Yamaha R2 Engine and Performance
The biggest attraction of the R2 is expected to be its new engine. Reports suggest that Yamaha is developing a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine of around 200cc, although some reports indicate that the displacement could be slightly above 200cc. Exact engine specifications have not yet been officially revealed.
According to industry expectations, the motorcycle could produce approximately 25 PS of power and around 20 Nm of torque. A 6-speed gearbox is also expected. The engine could use Yamaha's Variable Valve Actuation technology, similar to the system used on the R15, helping balance performance and efficiency.
