Maruti Suzuki Slashes Car Prices by Up to ₹1.3 Lakh After GST Rate Cut

In a major boost for car buyers across India, Maruti Suzuki has announced sweeping price cuts of up to ₹1.3 lakh on select models following the GST Council’s recent tax slab revision, which comes into effect on September 22, 2025. The move is expected to make several popular vehicles significantly more affordable, especially for middle-class families and first-time buyers.

Which Models Are Getting Cheaper?

Maruti Suzuki confirmed that the price reductions will apply to a wide range of vehicles, particularly those falling under the small and mid-size segments:

Alto K10, S-Presso, WagonR: Price cuts ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹45,000

Swift, Baleno, Dzire: Discounts between ₹50,000 and ₹80,000

Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara: Up to ₹1.3 lakh off depending on variant and location

The company stated that the revised pricing reflects the new 18% GST slab for small cars and utility vehicles, down from the previous 28% rate.

 Official Statement

A spokesperson for Maruti Suzuki said, “We welcome the GST reforms and are passing on the full benefit to our customers. This will not only make our cars more accessible but also stimulate demand ahead of the festive season.”

Government’s Push for Affordability

The GST Council’s decision to restructure tax rates under the GST 2.0 framework aims to reduce the cost of living and boost consumption. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the reforms are designed to benefit farmers, youth, women, and small businesses, with the auto sector playing a key role in economic recovery.

Market Impact

Industry analysts expect a surge in bookings and showroom footfall in the coming weeks, especially with Navratri and Diwali around the corner. Other automakers are likely to follow suit, triggering a wave of competitive pricing across the sector.

With Maruti Suzuki leading the charge, the GST revision is already reshaping India’s automotive landscape—one price cut at a time.
