Anant Nagarkatte, popularly known as Anant Nag, was born on 1948-09-04 in Shirali, Bhatkal Taluk, Karnataka. He is one of the most versatile and respected actors in Indian cinema, with a career spanning over five decades. He has acted in more than 300 films, including over 250 Kannada films, and has also appeared in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, and English films. His debut was in Sankalpa (1973), which won seven Karnataka State Awards. He is also remembered for his role in Malgudi Days (1987), directed by his brother Shankar Nag. Anant Nag has been honored with several awards, including the Padma Bhushan (2025) and the Rajyotsava Award (2007).

Beyond cinema, Anant Nag has been active in politics, associated with the Janata Party. His natural acting style and ability to portray diverse roles—from intense dramas to light comedies—have made him a household name in Karnataka.
