He is one of the most versatile and respected actors in Indian cinema, with a career spanning over five decades. He has acted in more than 300 films, including over 250 Kannada films, and has also appeared in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, and English films. His debut was in Sankalpa (1973), which won seven Karnataka State Awards. He is also remembered for his role in Malgudi Days (1987), directed by his brother Shankar Nag. Anant Nag has been honored with several awards, including the Padma Bhushan (2025) and the Rajyotsava Award (2007).
