Biography

Ananya Birla is an Indian singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and artist who was born on July 17, 1994, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She is the eldest daughter of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and philanthropist Neerja Birla and belongs to the prominent Birla family. Despite growing up in one of India's best-known business families, Ananya pursued her own interests in music and entrepreneurship. She developed an interest in Indian classical music at an early age and began learning the santoor when she was 11. During her teenage years, she also developed an interest in singing and songwriting. She attended the American School of Bombay and later studied Economics and Management at the University of Oxford.

 

Ananya began her professional music career with the English-language single “Livin' the Life” in 2016. She subsequently released several singles and became known for combining pop and electropop influences with contemporary songwriting. Alongside music, she established herself as an entrepreneur, founding Svatantra Microfin at the age of 17 and later working on luxury e-commerce ventures. She has also been involved in mental-health and social-impact initiatives. Her acting journey began with her association with the song “Inaam” from Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, followed by her reported full-fledged acting debut in Shlok: The Desi Sherlock. Her career therefore spans music, business, entertainment and social initiatives.
