Biography

Anil Surinder Kapoor, born on 1956-12-24 in Bombay, Bombay State (now Mumbai, Maharashtra, India), is one of the most iconic actors and producers in Indian cinema. Fondly nicknamed “Mr. India” and “Lakkhan”, he has enjoyed a career spanning over four decades, appearing in more than 100 films across Hindi, international, and television projects. He made his Bollywood debut with a cameo in Hamare Tumhare (1979) and rose to fame with Woh Saat Din (1983). His versatility shines through films like Mr. India (1987), Tezaab (1988), Ram Lakhan (1989), and Slumdog Millionaire (2008). He has won two National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards, cementing his place as one of Bollywood’s most enduring stars.

Kapoor is admired for his youthful energy, adaptability, and ability to reinvent himself across generations. He has also worked internationally, notably in Slumdog Millionaire and the TV series 24. Married to Sunita Bhavnani Kapoor since 1984, he is the father of actress Sonam Kapoor, producer Rhea Kapoor, and actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor.
