Biography

Allah Rakha Rahman, born A. S. Dileep Kumar on 1967-01-06 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, is one of the most celebrated music composers in the world. Fondly called the “Isai Puyal” (Musical Storm) and the “Mozart of Madras”, Rahman revolutionized Indian film music with his debut in Roja (1992). His unique blend of Indian classical, electronic, and world music quickly made him a household name. He studied Western classical music at Trinity College of Music, London, and later established the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai to nurture new talent. Over his career, Rahman has won multiple prestigious awards, including two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and six National Film Awards.

Rahman’s influence extends beyond cinema into philanthropy and global collaborations. He composed the iconic album Vande Mataram (1997), which became a symbol of national pride. His international projects include Slumdog Millionaire (2008), which earned him global recognition. Known for his humility and spirituality, Rahman converted to Islam in his youth and credits his faith for guiding his life and music.
