Biography

Ashutosh Gowariker began his career as an actor in the 1984 film Holi and appeared in several television shows and films before transitioning to direction. His directorial debut came with Pehla Nasha (1993), but his breakthrough was Lagaan (2001), which not only won multiple Filmfare Awards but was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. This achievement made him a voting member of the Academy Awards.

He continued his success with Swades (2004), a socially impactful film starring Shah Rukh Khan, and Jodhaa Akbar (2008), a historical romance that won critical acclaim. Gowariker is known for his grand storytelling style, blending history, culture, and human emotions. His work has contributed significantly to Indian cinema’s global recognition.
