Biography

Balachandran Chullikkad (real name: S. Balachandran) emerged in the late 1970s as one of the most prominent voices in Malayalam modernist poetry. His collections such as Pathinettu Kavithakal, Amaavaasi, Ghazal, Maanasaantharam, and Dracula are considered landmarks in contemporary Malayalam literature. His works often explore existential themes, human emotions, and social realities.

Apart from poetry, he has contributed as a lyricist, screenwriter, and actor in Malayalam cinema. He has also worked as a dubbing artist and television presenter. His memoir Chidambarasmarana (2001) reflects his personal and philosophical journey. Balachandran remains an influential figure in Kerala’s literary and cultural circles, admired for his eloquence and depth.
