Bhagyashree Patwardhan Dassani, popularly known as Bhagyashree, is an acclaimed Indian actress best remembered for her debut in the iconic film Maine Pyar Kiya (1989).

Born on 23 February 1969 in Sangli, Maharashtra, Bhagyashree hails from a royal Marathi family, with her father being the former Maharaja of Sangli. She began her career in television with Kachchi Dhoop (1987), directed by Amol Palekar’s wife Sheela, before achieving overnight stardom as “Suman” opposite Salman Khan in Maine Pyar Kiya. Her performance won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in 1990, cementing her place in Bollywood history. Despite the massive success, she chose to step back from mainstream cinema after marrying Himalaya Dassani in 1989, focusing on family life and later appearing selectively in films across multiple languages including Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Bhojpuri, and Marathi.

Bhagyashree is also a philanthropist, actively involved in social causes and wellness initiatives. In recent years, she has made appearances on television reality shows, including serving as a talent judge on DID Super Moms, and continues to inspire audiences with her graceful presence. She is the mother of two children, including actor Abhimanyu Dassani, who has followed her footsteps into Bollywood. With a career spanning decades, Bhagyashree remains admired for her elegance, her memorable debut, and her ability to balance stardom with personal commitments.
