She made her acting debut in the television serial Kachchi Dhoop (1987), which she joined after the original actress left the project abruptly.

Her Bollywood debut in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) opposite Salman Khan was a blockbuster, but she chose to step back from mainstream cinema soon after due to personal commitments.

She married Himalaya Dassani in 1989, and insisted on working only in films where her husband was cast opposite her during the early years of marriage.
