Biography

Govinda, born Govind Arun Ahuja on 1963-12-21 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, India, is a legendary Indian actor, comedian, dancer, and politician. Fondly nicknamed Chi Chi and Virar Ka Chhokra, he became one of Bollywood’s most popular stars in the late 1980s and 1990s, known for his impeccable comic timing, energetic dance moves, and charismatic screen presence.

He made his debut with Love 86 (1986) and went on to star in over 120 Hindi films, including classics like Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Aankhen (1993), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), and Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999). He received 12 Filmfare Award nominations, winning Best Comedian (2000) and two Filmfare Special Awards.

Govinda also entered politics, serving as a Member of Parliament for Mumbai North (2004–2009) under the Indian National Congress. In 2024, he joined Shiv Sena. Despite ups and downs in his career, he remains a beloved entertainer and cultural icon.
