Javed Jaffrey

Jaaved Jaaferi, born Syed Jaaved Ahmed Jaffrey on December 4, 1962 in Bombay (now Mumbai), is a celebrated Indian actor, dancer, comedian, and voice artist. The son of legendary comedian Jagdeep, he made his film debut in Meri Jung (1985), where his villainous role and electrifying dance number “Bol Baby Bol Rock ’n’ Roll” instantly made him a household name. Known for introducing Western dance styles like breakdancing to Indian audiences, Jaaved quickly established himself as one of Bollywood’s most versatile performers. His career spans films, television, stage, and voice work, with memorable contributions to shows like Boogie Woogie—India’s first dance reality show—which he co-created with his brother Naved Jaffrey and Ravi Behl, revolutionizing Indian television entertainment.

Beyond acting and dance, Jaaved Jaaferi has showcased his versatility as a voice artist, lending his voice to Hindi versions of Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Goofy, and hosting popular television programs on Channel V in the 1990s. He has appeared in numerous films across genres, including comedies like Dhamaal (2007), dramas like Salaam Namaste (2005), and critically acclaimed works such as Delhi Belly (2011). In 2014, he entered politics by joining the Aam Aadmi Party and contested the Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow. Despite not winning, his foray into politics reflected his interest in social issues. With a career active since 1985, Jaaved remains admired for his adaptability, humor, and pioneering contributions to dance and television, while continuing to inspire younger generations of performers.
