Jonita Gandhi grew up in Toronto after her family migrated to Canada when she was nine months old. Raised in a Punjabi household, she was exposed to music early through her father, Deepak Gandhi, who ran a music studio. She studied at Turner Fenton Secondary School and later pursued Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) and Honors Business Administration (HBA) at the Ivey Business School, University of Western Ontario. Alongside academics, she trained in Western classical music and Hindustani classical singing, which shaped her versatile vocal style.
Her career began with YouTube covers of Bollywood songs like Pani Da Rang and Tum Hi Ho, which went viral. She got her big break touring with Sonu Nigam, followed by playback singing in Chennai Express (2013). Since then, she has collaborated with leading composers like A. R. Rahman, Pritam, Vishal–Shekhar, and Amit Trivedi, delivering hits such as The Breakup Song, Mental Manadhil, and Kahaan Hoon Main. In 2024, she released her independent EP Love Like That, marking her entry into solo pop music.
