Joy Sengupta, born on December 14, 1968, in Kolkata, West Bengal, is an accomplished Indian actor known for his work in Hindi and Bengali cinema as well as theatre. Raised in Delhi and Nepal, Sengupta pursued English Literature at the University of Delhi, where he became actively involved in theatre. He joined the Jana Natya Manch, a prominent Delhi-based theatre group, and later trained at the Living Theatre Academy under the legendary Ebrahim Alkazi.

His career began in theatre, telefilms, and television series in Delhi before he moved to Mumbai in 1997. Sengupta’s film debut came with Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa (1998), directed by Govind Nihalani, which earned him recognition for his nuanced performance. Over the years, he has worked across multiple mediums, balancing stage and screen with equal dedication.

In cinema, Sengupta has appeared in Hindi films such as Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Good Boy Bad Boy, and Chauranga, as well as Bengali films like Mukti and Bhalo Theko.
