Kabir Khan, born on 1968-09-14 in Hyderabad (now Telangana), is an acclaimed Indian film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. He began his career making documentaries, including Beyond the Himalayas (1996) and The Forgotten Army (1999), before transitioning to feature films. His directorial debut was Kabul Express (2006), which won him the National Film Award for Best Debut Director. He is best known for directing New York (2009), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), and 83 (2021). His films often blend entertainment with strong social and political themes, earning both commercial success and critical acclaim.
Kabir studied at Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and later pursued a course in cinematography at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He is married to television host Mini Mathur, and they have two children. His father, Rasheeduddin Khan, was a noted political scientist, and his mother, Leela Narayan Rao, was a Telugu-speaking Hindu. Kabir Khan is also a board member of the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI).
