Kailash Kher grew up in a Kashmiri family, with his father Mehar Singh Kher being a traditional folk singer and his mother Chandrakanta Mehar Singh Kher a homemaker. His childhood was spent in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where he developed a deep interest in music. Despite facing hardships, including financial struggles and personal setbacks, he pursued his passion relentlessly. He studied at Delhi University through correspondence and also took private lessons in music at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi.
His breakthrough came in 2003 with the song Rabba Ishq Naa Hove from the film Andaaz. He went on to form the band Kailasa, which gained immense popularity for its fusion of folk and contemporary sounds. Over the years, Kailash Kher has sung in multiple languages and earned accolades including the Padma Shri in 2017. His unique voice and soulful renditions have made him a household name across India and beyond.
