Keanu Reeves was born in Beirut to Patricia Taylor, a costume designer from England, and Samuel Nowlin Reeves Jr., a geologist of Hawaiian and Chinese descent. His first name means “cool breeze over the mountains” in Hawaiian. After his parents’ separation, Reeves moved with his mother to Toronto, Canada, where he grew up. He struggled academically due to dyslexia but found passion in acting and ice hockey, eventually leaving school to pursue acting full-time.
Reeves gained early recognition with films like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Speed (1994), but his career-defining role came as Neo in The Matrix trilogy (1999–2003). He later reinvented himself with the John Wick series (2014–present), solidifying his reputation as an action icon. Beyond acting, Reeves plays bass guitar in the band Dogstar and is celebrated for his generosity, often quietly donating to charities and supporting film crews.
