Kunal Kapoor was born in Mumbai and began his career in theatre, working with Motley, a group founded by Naseeruddin Shah. He made his Bollywood debut with Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004), but his breakthrough came with Rang De Basanti (2006), where his portrayal of Aslam won critical acclaim and established him as a promising actor.
