Biography

Mahesh Babu, born Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu on 1975-08-09 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, is a celebrated Indian actor, producer, and philanthropist who works in Telugu cinema. Fondly called the “Superstar”, he is one of the highest-paid actors in Indian cinema and has appeared in over 30 films.

He began his career as a child artist in Needa (1979) and acted in several films during the 1980s and 1990s. His debut as a lead actor came with Raja Kumarudu (1999), which won him the Nandi Award for Best Male Debut. He rose to prominence with films like Murari (2001), Okkadu (2003), Athadu (2005), Pokiri (2006), Dookudu (2011), Srimanthudu (2015), and Bharat Ane Nenu (2018). His latest works include Sarkaru Vaari Paata (2022) and upcoming projects under his production banner GMB Entertainment.

Mahesh Babu has received nine Nandi Awards, five Filmfare Awards South, and four SIIMA Awards. He has consistently featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list (2012–2025), reflecting his popularity and influence.
