Biography

Matthias Schoenaerts began acting at a young age, appearing in Daens (1992) before pursuing formal training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. His breakthrough came with Bullhead (2011), where his portrayal of a troubled cattle farmer earned international recognition and helped the film secure an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

He went on to star in Rust and Bone (2012) alongside Marion Cotillard, which solidified his reputation as a powerful dramatic actor. Schoenaerts later appeared in Far from the Madding Crowd (2015), The Danish Girl (2015), Red Sparrow (2018), and The Mustang (2019). Known for his rugged charisma and emotional depth, he has become one of Europe’s most respected actors with a growing presence in Hollywood.
