Biography

Mithun Chakraborty made his film debut with Mrigaya (1976), which won him the National Film Award for Best Actor. He quickly rose to fame in the 1980s as the “Disco King” of Bollywood, thanks to his dance moves and hit films like Disco Dancer (1982). His unique style and charisma made him one of the most popular stars of his era, with a massive fan following across India and abroad.

Beyond mainstream cinema, Mithun has worked in socially impactful films and regional cinema, particularly Bengali films. His career spans over five decades, during which he has balanced acting with entrepreneurship and politics. He served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha (2014–2016) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2021. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2024 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2022.
