Biography

Monica Dogra, born on 25 October 1982 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, is an American musician, actress, and artist of Indian descent. She is the daughter of Dogra Hindu immigrants from Jammu, and her maternal uncle is Dogri folk singer Prakash Sharma.

She studied at New York University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre. Monica grew up in Baltimore, attending Oakleigh Elementary, Montessori, and Dulaney High School before moving into higher education.

She is best known as one half of the electronic band Shaa’ir and Func, with whom she released five studio albums. She has acted in six feature films, including Dhobi Ghat (2011), Rock On 2 (2016), The Married Woman (2021), and Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo (2023). Beyond acting and music, she has hosted four seasons of the acclaimed docu-series The Dewarists and served as a judge on India’s first English music talent show, The Stage.
