Biography

Mouni Roy, born on 28 September 1985 in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, is an Indian actress celebrated for her work in Hindi television and films. She studied at Miranda House, University of Delhi, and later pursued mass communication at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. Coming from an artistic family—her mother Mukti was a theatre artist and her father Anil Roy worked with the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad—Mouni was drawn to performance early on. She began her career in 2006 with the iconic TV serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, playing Krishna Tulsi. Her breakthrough came with Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev (2011–2014), where she portrayed Sati, followed by her hugely popular role as a shape-shifting serpent in Naagin (2015–2017), which made her one of the highest-paid television actresses in India. Transitioning to films, she debuted with Hero Hitler in Love (2011) and gained recognition in Bollywood with Gold (2018) opposite Akshay Kumar. Over the years, she has received several awards, including an IIFA Award and ITA Awards, along with Filmfare nominations. In 2022, she married businessman Suraj Nambiar. Known for her elegance, versatility, and strong screen presence, Mouni Roy continues to be a prominent figure in Indian entertainment, balancing television, films, and dance with equal passion.
